MEMO FROM THE TOWN OF GRANVILLE SANITARY SEWER BOARD
Recently, all customers of the Town of Granville Sanitary Sewer received a notice from the Morgantown Utility Board stating that there will be a sewer rate increase for customers of the Granville Sanitary Sewer beginning September 1, 2013. The rate increase was necessary for several reasons.
MUB has increased our cost to them several times over the past few years and the Town of Granville Sanitary Sewer Board has attempted to absorb the cost and not pass it on to our customers. The Board is now to the point where the cost to treat the sewage is greater than the amount we are collecting. The Public Service Commission laws require that a utility be self-supporting, thus the reason for the rate increase.
By State Law, The Town of Granville CANNOT use any B&O monies to supplement the Sanitary Sewer System. It is illegal to co-mingle funds. A Utility MUST stand on its own. This is the reason that we are not permitted, by law, to use any of our General Fund money to supplements sewer costs.
If any Town of Granville Sanitary Sewer customer has any questions about the increase, please feel free to contact our office.
The Sanitary Sewer Board meetings every fourth Tuesday at 6:00PM at the Granville Municipal Building located on Main Street. The meetings are open to the public.
